AZO FREE - What is it?

If a product is labelled AZO FREE or abbreviated AZ, it means that it does not contain the dyes Tartrazine E102, Yellow SY E104, Yellow SY E110, Azorubine E122, Ponceau 4R E124, Allura E129. These substances may adversely affect the activity and attention of children.

FOOD COLOURS

Use and dosage - governed by hygiene regulations and relevant technical standards, in particular Decree No 4/2008 Coll. of 3 January 2008 laying down the types and conditions of use of additives and extraction solvents in food production. For colouring agents E110, E122, E124, the maximum permitted amount (NPM) is 50mg/kg individually or in combination.

In combination with other dyes, the total content of dyes shall not exceed the NPM in the following table.

confectionery NPM 300mg/kg
edible decorations and coatings for sugar products NPM 500mg/kg
fine and durable pastry and sugar products NPM 200mg/kg
frozen creams, ice creams NPM 150 mg/kg
desserts including flavoured milk products NPM 150 mg/kg

For other dyes, the NPM shall follow the table above.

WARNING: suitability of use, stability and dosage must be tested by the manufacturer of the final product.

  • Yellow SY (E110): may adversely affect the activity and attention of children.
  • Chinoline Yellow SY (E104): may adversely affect the performance and attention of children.
  • Azorubin (E122): may adversely affect the activity and attention of children.
  • Allura wormwood (E129): may adversely affect the activity and attention of children.
  • Tartrazine (E102): may adversely affect the activity and attention of children.
  • Ponceau 4R (E124): may adversely affect the activity and attention of children.
